Karimikui AA is grown in Kirinyaga County, which lies at the very heart of the country, approximately 112 km North East of the capitol city Nairobi. The coffee grows on the fertile volcanic slopes of eastern Mount Kenya, where it grows at altitudes of 1,700 to 1,900 meters above sea level and receives ample rainfall for coffee cultivation. Much like Nyeriy, the neighboring country, Kirinyaga cis well-known for its exceptional coffee.

Karimikui Coffee Factory was established in the late 1950s and is part of the Rung’eto FCS Cooperative. The cooperative is located in Ngariama, Gichugu Division, Kirinyaga East District on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. About 2000 active farmers with an average farm size of 0.5 to 1 hectare supply their cherries to Rung’eto FCS. In addition to coffee, the cooperative also operates a dairy plant. The community benefits from integrated farming and a continuous cash flow. There is also a support programme to im- prove farming practices.
